The dark angel returns...

Shindig City Ruins; Monday January 21st, 5:32 P.M.

A black man with a short afro and garbed in a teal jersey and dark blue jeans sighed as he walked along the streets with his hands in his pockets. On his back he carried two guns - a sniper rifle and a chainsaw machine gun. On his waist he wore a holster that housed a dirty looking revolver and three small cans that looked like tiny fire extinguishers.

Project Roy looked out at the broken, torn city around him as he walked around a crater in the sidewalk. The neighborhood he was in was full of such flaws, with streets that had been heaved up, houses falling apart, and cars lying around in heaps of junk with weeds growing all over the place, and rotting corpses scattered about in various states of decomposition.

The man turned to the east, where he could see the sun slowly setting over the horizon. The planetary ring that stretched around the planet would be reflecting the light of the sun and extending 'daylight' for  another hour or two, but after that, if he hadn't found a new place to stay, his ass was grass.

The man sighed as he continued to walk down the street, looking, turning his head all around as he surveyed houses and other such buildings. He needed something secure, something safe, and hopefully with extra emergency supplies. The creatures of the night of the smarter variety than those of the day, and they were actively hunting him. Hunting his kind, the last of the humans on his planet.

It had only been two months since the invasion, and already his species had been nearly wiped out... or so it seemed, if the grim state of Shindig City was any sign.

They had come from nowhere, all at once, in the dead of night. Project remembered it as well as if it were yesterday, so vividly had the terror been etched into his mind...

Shindig City; Comfortable looking bedroom; Friday November 11th, 12:32 A.M.

Project sat at the edge of his bed, sighed as he rubbed his eyes, dressed in his trademark pajamas. He took the green bathrobe he had on off and set it down on the dresser beside him, then lifted his legs onto the bed and reached over to turn off his lamp just as voices began screaming from outside.

"Goodnight, screaming voices," He muttered as he snuggled his soft pillow, closing his eyes.

Just then, his bedroom window shattered and he heard a loud thump on the other side of the room. It was then that he instantly sat up and laid his eyes on the ugliest creature he'd ever seen in his life...

Shindig City Ruins; Streets; Monday January 21st, 5:33 P.M.

Project shuddered and shook his head. That was not something he was ready to remember. In all his time since that attack, he'd only seen one of those one more time, and he was quite ready to never see one again. That night, he'd done what he had to to survive, then those who had survived on him relied on what remained of the police, sheriff, and whatever other forces remained that had weapons capable of fending off the creatures.

Soon after the invasion, the national guard responded, adding to their strength. Then the Army and the Marines were brought into the most major cities, including Shindig.

But the invaders proved far too mighty for their forces, and now, weapons much like the ones Project carried were strewn about the streets.

It was then that he stopped his walking as the sounds of some creature grunting and growling became evident to him. Project turned to look down the street and saw a huge pile of cars from which the sounds were coming. Grabbing the machine gun from his back, he carefully proceeded towards the sound, noiselessly, and looked over the car.

And then he saw it tearing into a fresh kill. The yellow creature with long, black tipped ears, a flat jagged, white-tipped tail, distinctive brown stripes on its back, razor sharp claws that could deliver electric shocks, and cheeks covered in crimson hungrily bit into its meal, the loud sounds of its mouth smacking and chewing echoing around the entire street. It bit into and visibly pulled on the girl's entrails before ripping them out with a disgusting sounding snap and a spray of fluid. It was hunched over on two legs, as it greedily ravaged the body of a young woman.

It was a dreaded Pikachew, one of the mindless daytime creatures that preyed on humans like himself. It had killed the poor girl it was now helplessly gorging itself on, savoring in the taste of human flesh and blood. Project Roy slowly raised his gun up, quietly, noiselessly, and aimed it at the greedy bastard of a monster, ready to end its sorry existence.

As he did so, he glimpsed the rear window of the car he was using for cover and saw silently creeping up on him something he'd never expected to see use such a tactic.

With a yell, the black man turned and began firing at the second Pikachew as he ran away. The creature was surprised by his attack and was stunned, but only for a moment. As Project ran as fast as he could, he turned to look back and could see the first one climbing over the the cars as the other one shook off the pain of fresh bullet wounds. They were both pursuing him now, two large, deadly creatures bent on tearing him to shreds and devouring him bit by bit as one had been doing to another poor woman not so long ago.

Shindig City Ruins; Monday January 21st, 5:34 P.M.

A white man with shoulder-length, slicked-back blonde hair - clothed in black jeans and a dark green tank-top - hefted his weapon back onto the holster on his back and instead grabbed the shotgun from its place at his side. The smoking corpse of a large, vicious looking bird with large hole digging into its chest was laying on the ground. It'd only been quick thinking, getting the hell out of the way, quick aiming, and the telltale sound that fast moving objects always made that saved him.

The shotgun was a AA-12 Fully Automatic, capable of firing three hundred rounds a minute. When he'd first heard of it, the man had thought such a weapon was pure overkill, and that M.P.S. was crazy for developing it. But who's laughing now, with this monster invasion bearing down on the world? Well, nobody was laughing right now, but he imagined that M.P.S. would be if it turned out their ridiculous weapons ended up saving the world.

His other weapon was just as insane, naturally made by the same company, if undeniably helpful in keeping him alive this long. The weapon now resting on his back was an odd cross between a harpoon gun, and a stun gun. The weapon would fire the harpoon-like bolt - it was only around half the size of an actual harpoon - and then deliver enough voltage to kill a man if turned onto its maximum setting. Unfortunately, what he was using it on were much, much worse than men.

The man, who went only by the name "Xero" for unknown reasons, did his best to ignore the decay around him and instead focused on keeping his guard up. These monsters weren't generally subtle, at least not the one he had so far encountered, but it never hurt to be on guard. A few tense, silent moments later, and he heard the sound of running footsteps up ahead from behind a large pile of debris.

Moving around it, he was greeted by the sight of a black man with an afro being chased by two of the large yellow monstrosities. If he recalled, it was called a Pikachew, and the buggers were mainly just daytime ravagers. It was at night when the real horrors came out... Shaking away the brief memories of creatures he'd barely managed to evade, Xero briefly mulled over what he could do to help. There were two of them, and the other man that was getting closer by the second was armed as well... One on one would be bad enough, one on two nearly impossible. But, two on two could just maybe work out.

The only question was did he throw himself in danger, or did he simply walk away? Not having time to dwell on it, Xero just muttered a quick comment of "Fuck it." and jumped out from behind the twisted pile of rocks and metal scrap, waiting for a clear shot that wouldn't hit the man he was trying to save. Seeing a brief window of opportunity, he opened fire on one of the Pikachew that had strayed off a bit to the right while pursuing the man.

Several rounds hit the creature, sending it tumbling across the ground as the rapid impacts screwed up its pursuit and caused it to trip. If it wasn't a deadly creature, he would have laughed at the comical sight of it fumbling over itself and rolling across the shattered street.

Shindig City Ruins; Monday January 21st, 5:32 P.M.

A young girl wandered the ruined streets, eyes downcast and legs moving jerkily. She wore a black shirt under a tight denim overall skirt, with a bulging fanny pack around her waist, fingerless gloves and plain sneakers. The childish outfit was completed by the thigh high purple socks and large ribbon keeping her short bushy brown hair out of her face. The young teen was very cute - or at least, she would be, if her clothing wasn't covered with scorches and bloodstains.

And if that didn't cue you in that there was something wrong with her, her haltering walk, and distant, haunted stare should do the trick. Most convincing of all however, was probably the large tank of petrol strapped to her back. A thick cable extended from the tank, connecting to a intimidatingly large flamethrower held in her arms. The weapon was quite battered, and had clearly been used many times before. She seemed to be having a slight bit of trouble moving under it's weight, but despite this, she hefted the weapon expertly, obviously skilled in it's use, and ready to prove it at a moment's notice.

The girl muttered incoherently to herself as she walked, seemingly oblivious to the outside world.

A faint skittering noise echoed from a nearby trash can, and she instantly leveled her flamethrower at it. Several long, painful seconds passed - the girl didn't so much as blink. Finally, a small, harmless rat scurried away into the brush.

Far from being relieved, the girl instead clutched a her right arm, staring intensely at the long scar running across it. She grimaced in imagined pain, recalling the close call she'd had with a pair of Ratikills a month before. They'd come at her out of nowhere, attacking her without mercy with their brutal oversized fangs.

She'd nearly lost her arm to them.

She'd gotten the last laugh though. Chuckling in a rather disturbing manner, she pulled a gory necklace out of her overall skirt, running her fingers over the bloody claws that she'd strung together. Oh yes, she had proven herself the stronger then. More determined, more powerful. More bloodthirsty.

She could still smell the burned fur and flesh. She could still hear the oversized rats screeching, desperately clawing at the concrete in a futile attempt to escape her purging flames. The memories made her smile, a crooked, twisted smile, not meant to ever grace the face of such an innocent looking young girl.

The sound of gunshots suddenly shook her out of her reverie. Frowning, she began walking again, heading towards the sounds at a brisk pace. She soon found herself on an abandoned street much like the one she'd previously been traversing, but this one filled with more abandoned vehicles, culminating in a massive pile of them in the distance.

Curious, she peaked around a car, and immediately discovered the source of the gunshots. A man with an enormous frizzy hairstyle and several large guns was running roughly towards her on the other side of the street, pursued by two monstrous pokebeasts. Pikachews, she noted.

She giggled at the sight. The way the man's oversized hair bounced on his head was enormously funny, and she couldn't stop watching it. Up and down, the large ball of hair undulated outwards with each heavy, desperate step. She began to hope he could outrun the beasts, because she really wanted to run her hands through his frizzy hair. Yes, that would be fun!

She suddenly jumped as more gunshots rang out. It hadn't been the man being chased - he was running far too desperately to have shot at the beasts on his tail. She didn't get a chance to look for the source though.

The afro-man shot past her hiding spot, passing within 20 feet of her, one of the beasts still hot on his tail. The other one, however. . . the second unfortunate beast fell to the ground, tumbling head over heels. It rolled to a stop right before her, struggling to stand back up despite the large number of bullet wounds riddling it's body.

"Ooh" she said pleasantly, lifting her flamethrower and centering the barrel on the beast's prone form, "A present for me? You shouldn't have!"

She pulled the trigger, and a stream of liquid fire shot forth from her weapon, hitting the monster directly. The creature screamed horribly, an high pitched inhuman wail of agony. She kept the trigger held, following the monster with a smile as it struggled to move away from her, claws digging into the asphalt in a desperate attempt to escape the inferno.

She didn't let up until well after the creature had stopped moving and she was certain it was dead. She'd been fooled by a beast playing dead once before and nearly payed for it with her life, a mistake she wasn't going to make again. She carefully inspected the corpse from a distance.

Satisfied that the burning, acrid corpse was truly dead, she hopped cutely, pumping one hand into the air. "Yeah!"

Ecstatic from her victory, she turned to see if the man with the afro was still alive.

Shindig City Ruins; Monday January 21st, 5:34 P.M.

Project Roy ran as if his life was on the line even after he heard the pained screeching and shrieking, which it was. The telltale heavy pounding against the ground and the sound of sharp claws scraping across pavement met his ears and he knew that one of the yellow bastards was still hot on his tail. Project quickly jumped to the side and rolled, using the traction to stop his momentum. The pokebeast overshot him and started to very quickly adjust its course, turning around in place without slowing down despite its considerable girth and speed, in plain defiance of the laws of physics.

By then Project had already pulled the trigger on his gun, and he sprayed the filthy flesh eating monster with as many bullets as he could before it became obvious that the damned thing wasn't going to slow down. He ducked and jumped to the side again just in time to dodge the beast, and it swung overhead, swinging its bloodied claws before it. It cut clean through the remnants of an army truck, and rolled in the air before turning to face him and landing on its feet. The beast bared its fangs and claws at him and let loose a soul-shattering roar-shriek that could only have come from the depths of hell, spittle blasting forth and hitting him square in the face.

But Project had not been sitting idly, and now in his hands he held the instrument of its death. Roy peered through the scope of his sniper rifle and quickly, skillfully lined the creature's face up with the center of the scope. He pulled the trigger and the resulting shot echoed throughout the streets as the round lanced through the top of its open mouth and into the base of its brain. The creature's eyes dimmed, free of life, and it fell down to the ground near instantly and he quickly swapped his rifle for his machine gun. The man stood up and wiped his face as clean of spittle as he could while dirt fell down to the ground from his clothes and hair.

He kept an eye on it as he shook his head, flinging more dirt and pebbles around and quickly looked around the vicinity while slowly backing away from it, keeping his gun trained on it just in case it was playing dead. It or at least one of them had tried to sneak up on him, so he wouldn't have been surprised by any similar tactics now. Well, maybe he would have, since he wasn't used to them being able to think beyond screaming, maiming or killing, and eating, but he knew to expect more from them now.

Satisfied that this one was indeed dead, he looked up the street and saw the two people who had helped him, appearing one after another. A strange looking girl with a denim dress looking thing and a flamethrower, and a man in a dark green tank-top and black jeans. While keeping his eye on the pikachew still just in case, he started walking towards the nearest one, the girl.

On some level, he was a bit happy to see that there was not only one, but two other survivors in the area. The last few people he had teamed up with were killed, devoured by the daytime creatures or slaughtered by those that ruled the night.

"'Ey, thanks for the save," Project said with a nod.

The girl smiled shyly, hiding her mouth behind her hand.

"You're welcome," she responded softly, before suddenly speaking up much louder. "That was cool! You're cool! How'd you do all those cool flips and stuff? Are you a marine or something?

She paused for a second, working up the courage to ask the most important question.

"Can I touch your hair?!" She asked excitedly, staring intently at his afro.

"Actually, I was a champion Detroid Crime Hunters, Cogs of War, Murderzone 2 and Palo 3 player," He said, shrugging. "It didn't exactly translate to using a real gun as easily and quickly as I thought it would, but I've got the hang of it now." Of course, though he'd said 'champion', the truth was that his highest ranking in any of the games was only 246th best in the world overall, with a ranking of 142nd in headshots. He was a regional champion at best, and at those numbers, it was still easy to be moved up and down just during the week.

Still, his experience was turning out to be serving him well.

"And..." He blinked at her last, odd request. It was something that people had been asking a lot of him since the whole thing started, as if they'd never seen a damn afro before. "Maybe later on the hair thing," He said. "It'll be better when I get time to pick it out, anyway." He turned and looked at the other man, who was approaching. "Name's Project. So are you two together or something?"

As Xero approached the two other survivors, the newcomer girl that had finished off the pikachew he'd tripped up looking somewhat absurd with the large flamethrower strapped on, he noticed the black man turn to look at him before asking a question.

The blonde man rested his shotgun against one shoulder and shook his head in response, taking the moment to examine the two more. They looked pretty normal to him, exactly like one would expect from survivors. "Not unless she was part of a large group that had banded together a few weeks ago. Which is unlikely, since I'm fairly sure at least ninety percent of them are dead."

He briefly examined the girl closer, trying to see if he'd seen her in the crowd of people he had been a part of those short few weeks ago. Drawing a blank, he decided he must either not remember - understandable considering all the crazy shit that had happened - or the girl was some random survivor. After a moments pause, he decided he might as well introduce himself.

"I'm Xero, and yes, its an obviously fake name."

Shindig City Ruins; Monday January 21st, 5:36 P.M.

As Xero introduced himself to the others and began conversing, all present failed to notice a Pikachew slowly creeping from behind a nearby, overturned car. As quietly as it could, the beast attempted to sneak up on the pair by diving behind another nearby smoldering vehicle. However, just before it could strike out, it suddenly found a small, silver, and black hilted knife embedded in its throat. The Pikachew only had a few milliseconds to be surprised before the knife beeped but once and both the creature and knife exploded in a brilliant, gory display.

"Hehehehehehehe," a short man of obviously Latino descent chuckled insanely as he approached the group. That man was donning what appeared to be a long, black pea coat, a red scarf that covered his mouth and nose, a white dress shirt, a pair of denim blue jeans, and a pair of black combat boots. For all intents and purposes he looked like an average, lanky guy, with short cropped jet black hair and hazel eyes. However, what was not exactly normal was his metallic doll like hands, the black, skull and crossbones eye patch he wore, and the insanity that twinkled in his visible eye.

"Gentlemen, and lady, I would humbly suggest that you take your conversation somewhere a bit more...secure?" the man stated with another demented chuckle as he motioned toward the crumbling remains of a nearby movie theater that appeared to be in better shape than most of the other buildings present. "I've already cleared that place out and set up traps, so, if you wish to talk, I suggest following me into my humble abode," the tan skinned man stated as he began to walk toward the building as the large neon sign over head, which read "Harlequin Theater", flickered in and out of existence.

Shindig City Ruins; Monday January 21st, 5:36 P.M.

The young girl pouted when the man named Project finished introducing himself. He was just a great big disappointment! She'd been hoping he was someone cool, like a fireman, or a professional UFC competitor, or a ninja, or a time traveling assassin. Professional gamers were nerds!

And he wouldn't even let her touch his hair! She didn't care if it was dirty. Bloodstains gave you character, she thought, running her fingers through her own gore stained locks.

She listened to the other two men speak for a bit with some annoyance, and objected to their conclusion that she might have met Xero before.

"Hmph. Sorry, but I've never seen him before, and I normally travel alone." She spoke matter of factly, arms crossed before her and flamethrower now hanging from a strap below it's fuel tank. "It's best not to get into big groups - you'll only attracts the really, really big monsters. The last group I was part of tried to escape on a boat across the channel to the mainland . . . "

The girls brought her hands together in a pleading fashion, eyes starting to water as she recalled the horror. "We were attacked by a Gore-ados. It tore apart the ship with a single swing of it's tail, and started plucking the survivors out of the water. And then - and then . . ."

Her eyes widened in an almost worshipful awe, and her voice became quiet. "The Silver Winged Storm God appeared. He clashed with the Gore-ados . . . it was like a dream. I've never seen anything else so beautiful in my life. The ocean's raged, and blue flames burned even the water. The Storm God was hit by a brilliant beam of energy, but shrugged it off with a magnificent roar. It flapped it's wings, and the Gore-ados died in a titanic blast of wind."

Breaking from her reverie, the girl turned back to her audience and grinned exuberantly. "The tidal wave crushed the few survivors that remained. I'm not sure how I lived - I woke up on a beach a few days later."

Before either man could respond, a large explosion rang out, and gory yellow furred bits of flesh rained down upon the trio. The girl didn't so much as flinch, instead looking curiously at the strange man that was now approaching them.

She gasped in shock. The way he was dressed, the eyepatch he wore - could he possibly be? A pirate?!

She stared at him in fascination as he spoke to them, and wordlessly followed him when he moved towards the oddly well-kept theater.

Shindig City Ruins; Monday January 21st, 5:37 P.M.

The darkly clad figure watched the small gathering of people down below.  She clung expertly to the shadows as she studied them, as she didn't want to have this pack of potentially unstable people start unloading ammo at her because they saw a glimpse of movement.  They did seem to know what they were doing, though, and they seemed to be packing enough weaponry to arm a small commando force.  It had been sometime since she'd worked with others, going back before even the fall of the world to those unholy beasts; the nature of her work tended to leave her quite isolated and she'd gotten used to it.

Still, the ridiculously powerful firearms the group was toting was a large step up from her own weaponry.  She glanced at the Naginata held in her white knuckled grip, the ninja-to hanging from her waist and the compound bow hanging from her back.  Certainly, the metal and techniques used in their construction was far more cutting edge than their appearance would suggest, but even her skills had continued to fall short when it came to dealing with these poke-beasts.

Sighing, she finally relented.  As much as she prized her secrecy, it just wasn't logical to continue trying to survive on her own any longer.

Moving as silently as she could, so as to not draw any attention before she was easily visible, she closed in on the group before finally stepping out and waving tentatively to the gathered people.

"Konnichiwa?"

Xero nodded at the girls statement that being in a large group only made the worse monsters come after you, having learned that the hard way himself. It was rather odd that a small group could survive better than a large group, as that completely went against the "safety in numbers" rule that many regarded as simple, universal fact.

He turned with a small amount of surprise as a very unusual man appeared, and proceeded to suggest they hide in a nearby building. Before anyone could respond, however, another person appeared. The voice gave away the speaker as both a girl, and likely foreign since they were speaking Japanese. He briefly considered trying out his rusty language skills, before deciding this was no time for messing around.

"Looks like a lot more people have survived than I had thought, if so many of us are in one spot and its not merely coincidence."

Shindig City Ruins; Monday January 21st, 5:37 P.M.

Captain Abraham Orchid, or Abes as he was known to his friends, stopped dead in his tracks when he heard a language that he had hoped he never would have heard again.

"AR! WHO BE SPEAKIN' THE DEVIL'S LANGUAGE (Japanese) 'ROUND THESE PARTS?!" the Captain bellowed, his visible eye practically bugging out of his skull as his face went blood red in colour, as he turned around to glare at the new arrival to the group and, upon locating her, growled. "HOW DARE YE' SPEAK THE LANGUAGE OF THOSE BLOODY DOGS O' FILTH WHO CREATED THIS MESS?!" the Captain bellowed once more as he stalked over to the girl, making sure to keep his distance once he noticed her weapon, and spit on her shoes.

"You'll be watchin' yer tongue 'round me, lass. We only speak Indo-European languages 'round these parts, do ya' understand?" the Captain inquired as he placed his hands on his hips and continued to glare at the girl. After a second, however, his gaze softened and he apologetically whispered, "Sorry 'bout that lass, but I'm a wee bit sensitive when it comes to all things Japanese. Kinda have a grudge, ya' know? Anyway, I've got some wipes at my little fort over yonder that you can use to wipe that up."

Izumi stared at the oddly dressed man that had spit on her shoe.  On one hand, he had yelled at her vehemently, but on the other hand, he then turned around and began speaking in a calm, sedate manner, thus leaving her with completely mixed signals on what he was saying.  As such, she did the only thing she could think of.

She shrugged, smiling and nodding.  ". . . Hai . . . domo . . ."

Shindig City Ruins; Monday January 21st, 5:37 P.M.

Project had been a bit surprised by the nearby sound of an explosion of some sort, and had quickly turned, aiming his gun in the direction appearance of the latino guy, then heard the girl's reaction to his introduction and been surprised again, but shrugged it off, as he was somewhat used to it. That weird thing she described had sounded pretty weird though, he'd never heard nor seen anything like it... But by the time he could consider her words, someone else appeared.

Project frowned as he looked around. Where were all of these people coming from? Especially so disjointed as they were? Were they... were the pokebeasts using some sort of new tactic to get to him? He supposed it made sense, but what sort of pokebeast could do that? Was it... one of the pokemen?

He'd seen them before. Beautiful creatures, with no indistinguishable gender, save for their warriors. Green and white flesh, appearing to meld into an elegant dress that flowed away from their body, with green hair and red eyes, while those who were visibly warriors had blades extending from their elbows. They all had the red... metallic looking thing jutting from the center of their chests, warrior or not. They had been there on the first night of the invasion, fighting alongside the pokebeasts, but in a cold, calculated manner that said something about their intelligence being far greater than the mindless horrors they fought with.

He'd seen one lift a screaming man up into the air and then simply... explode the poor guy with nothing more than hand gestures, from a distance. Luckily Project had been far enough away and the pokeman was more than pleased to slaughter those within slaughtering distance instead of chase after him.

Shaking his head, Project instead looked at the newest girl and took in her appearance as the man who'd called himself Xero stopped talking. She held a naginata in her hands, had a ninjaken attached to her waist, and a compound bow on her back. Project blinked at that; he'd given up on the whole melee thing early on, as the few swords he found lying around, having been used by the Army's "Combative Black-Ops" or "Ninjacorp" as they'd come to be called by some people, had been unwieldy for him, far too different from the double wakizashi combo he had begun to learn to use with his own style after playing Ninja Legends and Ninja Legends 2 so many years ago, incorporating his knowledge of the basics of kendo, aikido, karate, and jujutsu. Surprisingly still, they'd worked for him for some of the creatures - up until a pikachew had decided to cut the blades he'd found into sections using only its claws. That had been unpleasant.

And to think everyone he knew had ridiculed him for 'swinging those things around like a lunatic' at some point or another. He was no Ryui Kusabusa, but his techniques had worked all the same.

Still, to see someone who had survived only with the 'primitive' tools that were often ridiculed as being anachronistic was rather heartwarming, he thought. A shame she didn't appear to have a bo-staff or nunchaku on hand, but you take what you get.

"I'm going to go ahead and assume you don't speak English," Project said, looking at the nervous girl, who had by now been yelled at by the crazy lookin' guy. At least she hadn't said 'Nihao'... "So... let's see..." He'd begun to learn the language when he was thirteen, after watching some anime and playing some video games, and now the skill that everyone had for years touted as being useless to him... was finally going to pay off... aside from letting him translate manga and letting him play foreign games before localization.

The question was, what to say? He'd never actually dealt with a Japanese person before, aside from his professors and a couple of good friends; 3chan didn't count. So the social awkwardness thing was likely going to come out, here.

"Yō, ore no namae wa Purojekkuto. Omae wa dare da? Kono henjin no shiriai ka?" (Yo, name's project. Who are you? A friend of that weird guy?) He asked, pointing at the latino with a thumb.

It was probably a good idea to take that latino guy up on his invitation though, as crazy as he'd looked. If she didn't know him, then he'd have to tell her the guy was offering them a place to stay.

Izumi considered the man with the very large, poofy looking hair.  He apparently understood japanese, which was a great stroke of luck with her.  Still, she wasn't that great in social situations at the best of times, so she answered as succinctly as she could.

"Aisatsu."  She then gestured to herself.  "Izumi"  She then gestured to the eye patch wearing man.  "Dame desu."

She then shrugged and began to follow the eyepatch wearing man.  She had no idea what he was saying, but his body language made it more than clear that he wanted them to follow him towards the building he was gesturing to.

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 5:41

"Alright, lasses and lads, welcome to my little home away from home!" Abraham declared as he led the group into the theater, pointing toward a pair of trap wires so that they would step over them instead of triggering a nasty, and most definitely fatal, surprise.

Stepping into the lobby the group was greeted by the sight of a rundown, multicoloured, concession stand with a jester's hat comprising the cover, and practically covered in mounds of dust, cobwebs, and green-brown grime. However, it should be noted that the popcorn maker had been cleaned to perfection and was currently popping away as fluffy, white popcorn was automatically saturated in butter before being emptied out into a clear container. The lobby also sported a raggedy, torn gold and red trimmed carpet with the name of the theater written in bubble letters greeting would be customers as they stepped in to purchase their tickets at the crumbling, fractured remains of ticket booths now covered in dust and cobwebs.

The lobby was also fairly dark, aside from a few flickering lights that led to the bathroom and one that led to Movie 1.

As the Captain allowed his guests to take in the sights he immediately made his way over to the concession stand where he scooped up a dusty popcorn bucket, blew into it, wiped it out with his hands, and scooped up some popcorn with a nearby silver scooper.

"Well, mates, feel free to help yourself to the popcorn, there's plenty, and there's a vending machine right behind this 'er stand that still has some soda and water in it," the eye patch wearing man stated as he popped a hand full of popcorn into his mouth under the folds of his scarf and motioned toward an ill lit vending machine behind him. "Well...everyone except you lass," Abraham said with a slight frown as he pointed at the obviously Japanese girl, "First thing we've got to do with you is teach you a little English, though you can grab some popcorn if you want, then you can feel free to do as ya' please."

He then turned his frown to everyone else present and added, "Now yer only gonna wanna go in the spots that are lit, cause if you go outside of those bounds yer likely to set off one of my traps, and I promise ya' that won't end well fer ya'. Other than that, feel free to stretch yer legs, mates, you're as safe as you're going to get here."

With that said, the Captain, grinning like a madman, motioned for the ninja girl and the black man to follow him with his hand as he led her to theater one.

"Come on you two, grab some popcorn and follow me. We're going to teach little Miss. Japan here some English so I don't get the almost overwhelming urge to tape her torso to the front a cannon and firin' it every time she speaks," Abraham said as he adjusted his scarf a bit and headed into the room.

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 5:41

Izumi looked around the dusty, but surprisingly maintained building with no small amount of awe . . . and hunger.  That popcorn machine had to have been some for of blessing from the gods, because she hadn't smelled anything so nice in years.

"Sugoi," she muttered to herself as the eye patch wearing guy started scooping up some of the popcorn into a container.  He then proceeded to gesture to her several times as he spoke.  The only conclusion that she could come to was that he was offering her some of his popcorn.  She beamed the man a smile as she proceeded to follow his example and clean out her own bucket and fill it with popcorn, then, as an after thought, she filled another bucket and handed it to the adorable little bloodstained girl with the flame thrower.

"ここで、あなたはこれを食べるべきです、それはおいしいにおいがします," she explained happily.

She then noticed the popcorn man and the puffy hair man begin to head to another room, and they were gesturing for her to follow them.  So, not having much else to do, she decided to go along with it and follow them.

Of course, if they were going to try to force themselves upon her in exchange for the popcorn . . . well, she didn't exactly need them alive to work the machine, now did she/

Project had wanted to get to know the group a bit in depth before doing anything else, really, but the guy with the weird accent seemed to want to teach Izumi some simple English apparently. That was another thing; he was dying to know exactly how and why she was there in the first place. Had she been part of the Ninja Corp.? He had thought they would all be actual citizens of his country, but oh well, you learn a new thing every day.

Hearing her say something, he turned to look at the girl she was handing a bucket of popcorn to. He wasn't quite sure he'd heard the first word right, as 'ここ' referred to 'here' as in a location rather than an object, and sure, it was obvious what her intention was, but he felt like translating anyway.

"She said that's for you, she thinks it smells tasty." With a shrug he turned and followed after the Latino guy. The smell of popcorn actually made him nauseous, gave him an acute headache, and made him light headed and dizzy, but there was no point sharing that with other people. Though he'd been surprised to, he'd found out that yes, some people did enjoy the taste of popcorn, and weren't just eating it because it was there, and he didn't want to ruin their experience.

With that, he turned and followed the latino into the room, and waited for Izumi to show up.

Xero looked around, examining the area carefully. The place seemed currently safe enough, sure, but it didn't look like it would do much if the monsters decided to actually come inside. Of course, there were the traps the strange man mentioned, but that wasn't much assurance. The daytime monsters would likely be prevented from entering, but the nighttime creatures were much worse and any trap that could kill one would have to be incredibly overkill as far as traps go.

Those thoughts were dismissed when he noticed the popcorn, having had very little to eat over the last few hellish weeks. Just enough to survive, really, and some of it tended to be much worse as a food choice than popcorn. Helping himself to some popcorn, and noticing the black man, the japanese girl, and the strange pirate-like man going off somewhere, found himself left with just the battered girl with the flamethrower.

Popping a few pieces of the popcorn into his mouth, he considered if he should try and make conversation.

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 5:42

"Harharharhar," Captain Abraham chuckled to himself as he took a seat in a red cushioned flipout seat and caught a scene from some cartoon based movie about Koalas with supercomputers installed in their brains. "Harharhar, stupid people, harhahar, never should have given them those brain chips," the Captain continued to laugh as he popped some more popcorn into his mouth from under his scarf while waiting for the other two to arrive.

When the medium fro'ed man stepped into the theater he made an arcing motion with his hand indicating that he should probably sit in the third row, where the Captain was located, or in the second or fourth.  He did the same when the Japanese girl finally arrived.

"Ar, let the lesson begin. I at least want you saying "Hello" to me instead of that "Co-knee-cheese-wad" bullshit you were saying a few minutes ago. Can't stand that damned phrase I'm afraid."

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 5:42

The blood splattered young girl suddenly suddenly popped up behind the Captain, a large butter drenched bucket of popcorn held in her arm, courtesy of that nice ninja woman.

"Are you really a pirate?" She asked the man, hope warring with skepticism in her voice. "You didn't just play a pirate video game and decide to pretend, did you?"

She may have been giving the stink eye to a certain afro'd faker while asking this.

"Are you and the nice ninja lady gonna have to fight to the death now?" She didn't seem to be at all upset at by the idea. In fact, she almost seemed . . . hopeful.

Shindig City Ruins - A Damaged Rooftop Several Blocks Away from the Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 5:45

Atop the empty rooftop stood an inhuman creature, watching the theater where the recently united survivors were taking shelter with unnerving intensity. It's body was built roughly like a humans - it had two arms, two legs, a head and stood upright - but it could never be mistaken for one. It's torso, shoulders and pelvis were covered with hard, layered chitinous plating, colored a deep brown, and it's forearms and shins were similarly armored. The exposed skin between was covered with fine yellow fur. It had three fingers on each hand, and three claw like toes on each foot, two on the front of each foot and one located at each ankle. It's face was entirely inhuman, shaped like a fox's, with two large ears on the top of either side of it's head, and a long narrow snout filled with dozens of tiny, razor sharp teeth, with a small mustache hanging from the end. It's beady, sinister eyes glowed with an otherworldly power, clearly revealing the astonishingly intelligent mind it possessed.

The air around the creature seemed to pulsate, visibly rippling like the surface of a calm pond after a pebble had been dropped into it. Energy gathered around one of it's hands, condensing into solid objects - several finely polished spoons. Just as quickly as they'd formed, the silverware dissolved away again, returning to the cloud of crackling energy that cloaked the monster.

A FEW HUMAN SURVIVORS REMAIN, IT SEEMS, DESPITE OUR EFFORTS

The creature's thoughts were broadcast throughout the city, heard only by those who were intended to hear them. Horrifying, twisted monsters of every shape and description imaginable instantly turned their attention towards their leader, drinking in every word.

THIS SITUATION MUST BE RECTIFIED
THESE ISLANDS MUST BE CLEANSED

Howls and roars echoed through the streets in agreement, a chilling cacophony of bloodlust.

THOSE OF YOU ABLE, HEED MY CALL
GATHER UNTO ME, AND WE SHALL CRUSH THESE VERMIN

Burrowing through the earth, leaping over the rooftops, stampeding through the streets. Dozens of monsters, all those intelligent enough to understand the creature and also willing to ally themselves with it hurried towards it's location, driven by their mutual desire to feast on human flesh.

THIS WORLD BELONGS TO US NOW
WE ATTACK AT SUNDOWN

The foxlike creature, known only as Alakazam, opened it's mouth, and for the first time this night made an audible noise.

It laughed. A deep, low rumble, conveying only malevolence, and born of the monster's absolute hatred. It was a jeer that mocked the very concept of joy, and any human that heard it would have voided themselves in terror. It was the laugh of a demon.

Izumi sat next to the eyepatch wearing man, still not sure what he was up to . . . at least until he awkwardly said 'konnichiwa' to her in a tone that made is sound like a bit of a lame pick up line.  It was about then that she realized just what was going on here.

"おお。 あなたは日付に私に尋ねることを望みました。 私はそれが最初の日付に問題がない、しかし砂糖ではないと考えます。"

It was about then that the young girl suddenly popped up and started pestering the eyepatch wearing man.  Being that she had been on her own for quite some time and was interested to see where this situation was going, she patiently made shooing gestures to the young girl.

"あなたは単独で我々に数分を与えることができますか? 私は彼が私を誘惑しようとしていると思います、それであなたは奇妙な髪男を連れて行って、そして一瞬の間去ることができましたか?"

Project Roy could not help but laugh as he heard the lady talk. He snickered several times and looked over at the latino guy.

"She thinks you're trying to taker her on a date and seduce her," He said through a laugh. It was no surprise that she'd said his hair was weird, but oh well. Her sentence structure was a bit quirky, and he was still trying to figure out a bit of what she was saying, but there were plenty of nips who played with their language like that in anime and stuff, it was supposed to be quirky or something.

The good Captain frowned at Project's words a bit, but decided to address the hyperactive girl behind him first.

"Ay, lass, I be a pirate. A sky pirate to be more precise. Ever since my pa stole the first experimental Air-Sea Ship from a secret United State's military experimentation and weapons development outpost. Since then, after ma' pa passed, I've taken up the mantel and have been plundering and gunning down ships and planes alike," Abraham said with a cocky smile and wink, using his good eye, at the flamethrower wielding girl. "Oh, and there be some wipes by the popcorn machine if you need to wipe yer hands up after ya' get done with that snack there."

Turning away from the shorter girl, the Captain then turned his attention toward the Japanese one, who, for some reason, just wouldn't stop speaking Japanese despite the fact that he said it was literally driving him crazy.

Shaking his head and frowning a bit the Captain turned to Project and said, "Ay, mate, tell 'er I'd never hit on a Japanese. At best I tolerate them, like I'm doin' the little Miss. right now, but I'd never try to go to bed with one. Couldn't stand to have their filth on my memeber if ya' catch my drift."

"Anyway, since you seem to have a good grasp of the devil's tongue (Japanese), why don't you teach her some English before I'm forced to jam one of my explosive knives through her cute little mouth."

Project nodded and turned to look at Izumi and began to speak with a straight tone.

"お前は勘違いするぞ。こいつは日本大好きだけど・・・女なんか大嫌いだぜ。本当の目的はお前を英語を教える。こいつは、日本語を聞くとき、死んだ恋人を覚えだすぞ。だからぷりぷりしてね。お前のせいじゃないんだが・・・" (You're mistaken. This guy loves Japanese people, but... he really hates women. The real purpose is to teach you English. You see, every time this guy hears Japanese, he remembers his dead lover. It makes him upset. It's not your fault, but...) He shrugged.

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 5:44

At hearing what Roy said, Izumi's eyes grew larger, and larger and more shimmery, until she couldn't hold it in any longer!

An instant later, she burst into tears and clutched the pirate in a tight hug for a moment, before she ran out of the room in tears.

That had been the saddest thing she'd ever heard!

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 5:45

Captain Abraham shuddered at the girl's unexpected touch, his face warping into a look of both pain and agony, before she abruptly released him and ran off. However, her fleeting touch had been enough to awaken long dormant memories that stirred within the Captain's subconscious threatening to spill forth.

Even as Izumi ran off in tears, the Captain's eye began to dilate until it was nothing more than a pinprick, and his mouth simply hung agape.

"Oh Abraham, yoo so funny. You make Chou laugh lots, she hope you neva leave."

The face of the woman who spoke in very broke English was blurry, but, despite the vagueness of her features, the Captain could make out her almond eyes and alluring chocolate irises. Her hair was like jet silk, and her skin pure, untainted alabaster. She might have been wearing a blue and white floral pattern kimono, but the identification of what she was wearing was just as fleeting as her features.

"Hm, I don't plan doing so anytime soon, Chou, though perhaps, if I'm going to stay, I should learn at least a little Japanese."

The voice was his, he contumaciously recognized, much to his surprise. However, the vision came so quickly and with such intensive force that he hadn't a second to dwell on the "problem" associated with him not only associating with an almost obviously Japanese woman, but also the fact that he may have been courting her. He didn't even have a millisecond to ponder on why he would ever want to learn the devil's tongue

"Ah! Really?! You stay, Captain?!"

Her eyes, which were alright bright, grew even more luminous at this as she clutched his hand. Suddenly a shock surged through the Captain as he felt his chest clench and tighten painfully, and his head begin to spin ever so slightly. He was faintly aware of the fact that he was beginning to sweat as beads formed on his brow and the bridge of his slightly pointed nose.

"Heh, on my honour, Chou, on my honour."

And just like that it was over in the blink of an eye.

When it was over the Captain felt ill as his vision swam, a wave of stomach churning nausea made him retch, and his eyes blurred back into focus.

"Damn indigestion, must have eaten too much popcorn," the raven haired man muttered to himself groggily as he set his popcorn down, pinched the bridge of his nose, and gently pushed his way past everyone.

"Sorry, mates, I'm going to need a minute. I think the smell of Japanese has made me a right bit ill," the Captain said by way of excusing himself as he headed out of the film lit theater and headed toward the bathroom.

Project quickly moved out of the way the minute the man began to wretch, he was subject to the disgusting sight and strong stench of the man's bile and half digested popcorn. The black man simply watched as the man spoke and then made his way to the bathroom.

'I hope he's going to get something to wipe this up,' He thought. 'Wouldn't want someone to slip on it.' He climbed over the seats towards the exit and made his way to the lobby, where he looked around again. He didn't see Xero anywhere, and figured the other man had taken up the guy's offer to wonder around. If Project had his way, they wouldn't be allowed to go anywhere alone, considering that the place may have been less safe than ol' mr. spit-up might have thought, but oh well.

'The minute he's better, we're going to have to go over the layout of this place, in case of an emergency, and see if he knows how to stave off the Zubites.' Ironically, despite being unable to see, they hated bright light and would avoid it like the plague.

However, unless one glowed, it was nearly impossible to go out at night because of them, since most street lights and the like were destroyed, and the electricity for the city was out anyway. The theater and few other places he'd been to had to be powered by generators, which meant going out to get gasoline every time they went out.

Zubites were small batlike creatures that flew in huge swarms that blanketed the skies, like flying piranha, only they were much worse. He'd seen a great deal of people go from flesh and bones to dust in seconds on the first few nights, when the people had stepped out into the darkness. Even indoors, unless the building was still properly sealed, or you were in the basement, those monstrosities would just come in and tear you to shreds. Even pokebeasts didn't dare stray out into the night unless they were of the light-generating variety or, staying under a light. The things came out the minute the sun was down and went back to whatever dark spots they haunted during the day the moment the sun was up.

He looked around. 'Hmm, perhaps I should try to find Izumi or that little girl,' He thought. Though they both looked perfectly capable of protecting themselves, he felt it best for them to stick together.

Shindig City Ruins - Outside the Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 7:00 P.M.

Izumi sniffed several times before finally adjusting the cloak that covered her as she sat on her perch outside the theater.  There really wasn't much she could do to make the top of the telephone pole comfortable, but she still tried.  The sun had already set several minutes ago, but she couldn't be bothered to go in yet.

She knew of the various beasts that hunted the night, but she also had several tricks for avoiding them.  Take those accursed bats, for instance.  She could already hear them fluttering around her, but as long as she remained perfectly still, using her cloak to obscure the shape of her body prevented them from finding her, and she'd long since taken precautions to cover her blatantly human scent.

They were beautiful, in a way, hateful little beasts that they were . . .

Her ruminations were interrupted by a different sound in the distance, followed by several others.  Hideous, monstrous bellows which reverberated with bloodlust and rage.

More disturbing, though, was the fact that they seemed to be coming from all around them . . . and they were getting closer.

Despite the danger to herself, with all of those bastadly bats floating around her, she launched herself off the pole and towards the entrance of the theater.  Several of the creatures nipped at her back, but her armored clothing protected her from the worst of it.

A second later, she burst in the front door and yelled, more or less incoherently, to get everyone's attention.  She then made her point more visual by grabbing up her naginata and shaking it as she called for help.

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater Lobby; Monday January 21st, 7:00 P.M.

The girl sat on the counter of the snack stand, surrounded by a small mountain of nonperishable snacks and with a jumbo super sized slushy held between her knees. She stared longingly into the distance, giggling to her self occasionally, between stuffing her face with candy and taking long slurps of her drink.

Oh, to think that she'd be witness to such a beautiful and spontaneous romance. She'd thought that love at first sight was something that only existed in books and movies, but just moments before, she'd gotten to see it with her own eyes.

She stuffed a large bite of chocolate candies into her mouth, and then held her face with both hands and shook it gently, blushing intensely as she chewed.

She would never have thought that a kunoichi and a pirate could overcome the ancient enmity between them! She'd nearly swooned when the darkly clad woman had embraced the pirate with tears in her eyes, and then run from the room in embarrassment. She'd actually squealed with excitement when the pirate had run off after her, obviously overcome with emotion and unable to live without her.

Wiping a tear from her eye (and leaving a long streak of melted chocolate underneath it), she put her hands together, moonstruck.

She could only hope that one day she too discovered such a wonderful and exhilarating feeling. She sincerely hoped those two would be happy together forever.

Her disturbingly exaggerated daydreams of handsome and charming bloodsoaked barbarians proclaiming their undying love and devotion to her while showering her with the severed heads of her enemies were suddenly broken when the kunoichi crashed through the front door of the theatre (skillfully avoiding all of the traps the pirate had warned them about in the process) and skidded to a stop, shouting and waving her weapon around frantically.

The young girl waved back at her with a cheerful smile. She must be looking for her new boyfriend!

"Hi Miss Ninja! Mr. Pirate is in bathroom, I think. Probably sulking cause he couldn't find you. Either that or he really had to go number two." She gestured to the small mountain of candy surrounding her. "Want some candy while you wait for him to finish up?"

The ninja woman stared at her incomprehensibly, before waving and shouting again.

Oh, right! She only spoke Japanese. As the girl tried to remember how to translate what she'd just said, a dark form slowly slid through the door behind the ninja, unhindered by the solid wood. A dark purple mist seeped from the strange object, somehow seeming to glow despite not giving off any light. As the creature came further into view, she could see that it had a round, dark violet body, with spikes angled backwards on the sides of it's face. It's cloudy eyes glowed with the same nonluminescent light as the fog she could now see was it's breath, escaping from a wide maw filled with sharp triangular teeth. A pair of sinister, disembodied hands floated before it.

She watched, unable to speak, enthralled by the scene that played out slowly before her. The ninja continued to wave about, unaware of the danger she was in, and the creature closed in on her. It's mouth opened up, terrifyingly wide, and a long slick tongue emerged from the void within it. The creature stared at the ninja's back hungrily, and reared back, predatory intentions clear.

The entire time, the monster had made not a single sound, a fact that enhanced the convincingly dreamlike quality of what the girl was witnessing. Just before the monster could touch the ninja, a single drop of saliva fell from it's tongue, hitting the ground with a resounding splash that finally broke the girl out of her dreamlike state.

She leapt off the counter, scattering her collection of sweets, pointing and shouting desperately at the kunoichi. "Behind you!"

Xero nodded to himself as he finished his brief examination of the area. It seemed as good a place as any to set up a defense, though if any of the bigger and badder monsters found them, it might as well be a wet paper bag. Fishing out the last few morsels of popcorn from his container, he chucked it in a nearby trash bin. Moments later, he heard the sound of someone shouting, and hurried back in the direction of the lobby. He couldn't make out any words, but it sounded urgent.

On noticing the small girl with the mountain of snacks, he was about to go over when she suddenly leapt off the counter she was sitting on and pointed frantically at something. Turning to look in that direction revealed the Japanese woman, and a large ghost like figure floating just behind her. Reflexively, he pulled his Stun Harpoon from its place and racked his brain for the appropriate word as he took aim. All he came up with was a single word that he HOPED was what he thought it was.

"Fuku!" He yelled as he pulled the trigger, sending the harpoon speeding through the air with a crackled of electricity around it straight at the monstrous apparition.

"Fuku!"

The shout caught Izumi quite off guard.  Judging by the speaker's inflection, he was asking her about her uniform, or, perhaps expressing a sentiment on good fortune - which flew quite in the face of the speaker's actions, though, as the strange man suddenly pulled out a harpoon gun and fired the deadly weapon straight at her face!

Moving with speed honed from a lifetime of training, Izumi leaned back, spinning gracefully out of the path of the projectile, already planning on a devastating counter attack - when she noticed the ghostly specter out in the periphery of her vision.

How had it gotten so close to her without her noticing!?  Body already working overtime to dodge the harpoon, she continued twisting, attempting desperately to move into a backflip - but it was for naught.  In a flash, she felt a hot, sting as the beast's tongue grazed the side of her throat.

Instantly, Izumi clutched at her throat as it felt like it was closing in on itself.  Seconds later, even as the harpoon lanced through the face of the ghostly figure and it howled in agony, she collapsed to the floor, gasping.

"No!" The bushy haired girl shouted in horror as the female ninja fell to the ground, having been too busy struggling to unhook her flamethrower from the fuel filled backpack to save her. Finally pulling the weapon free, she leveled the nozzle at the beast, thankful to whomever had bought her some time to react by momentarily stunning it.

"I won't let you crush this blossom of desire before it can bloom into a beautiful flower of love!"

Her passionate speech was punctuated by a fine stream of liquid fire, the nozzle set to it's narrowest configuration to avoid accidentally hitting the lovestruck ninja. The monster roared in pain as the gaseous substance comprising it's body was ignited in an instant. With a scream, it fell to the ground - fell through the ground, vanishing from sight altogether.

Unfortunately, the fire didn't dissapear as easily. Unable to travel through solid matter as ghost did, the embers that had been feasting on it scattered across floor, finding a new meal in the dry fibers carpeting the lobby. The flames instantly began to spread, crimson tendrils reaching out in dozens of direction, consuming everything they touched.

If the flames weren't stopped soon, the whole theater would surely burn down.

"Oops." The girl muttered weakly, just now realizing that releasing a stream of napalm within an enclosed, wooden building was a very, very bad idea. Even if they avoided the fire, there was a very real possibility of them all suffocating, as napalm was notorious for rapidly deoxygenating air and creating large amounts of carbon dioxide.

Shaking off the shame of her miscalculation, she quickly ran over to the fallen ninja, checking for injuries. She was shaking uncontrollably and gasping for breath, but otherwise seemed unharmed. Unsure of what was wrong with her, let alone how to fix it, she did the only thing she could do. With a titanic effort, she lifted the older woman upright and threw her limp arm over her shoulder. She began carrying her deeper into the theater, intending to escape the flames, and hopefully find the others.

Halfway down the hallway she suddenly stopped, a terrible chill running through her as she noticed a dark form drift out of the dancing shadows of the fire behind them. The monster was considerably smaller than before, most of it's mass having been burned away, judging by the smoke still rising from it's body and the pained wrathful look on it's face.

Unable to reach her weapon, the young girl made the mistake of looking straight into them monsters eye's. Instantly, she felt exhausted, all of her energy and motivation draining out of her. The monster drew closer, it's eyes spiraling hypnotically. She couldn't look away from them. She struggled to lift her flamethrower and failed miserably, unable to muster up the energy to do anything but whisper desperately.

". . . help . . ."

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 7:03 P.M.

"AR!!!!"

A trio of silver bladed, black hilted knives soared straight through the ghastly creature and embedded themselves in the ground as it attempted to close in on the girls. The creature, though substantially smaller, did not appear to be fazed by the slight blades that had, seemingly, painlessly pierced through it. That was, however, until those knives began to beep rapidly.

Looking down at the blades in confusion, the ethereal being was rather surprised and befuddled when the beeping abruptly ceased, but it's confused expression was abruptly erased as the knives exploded in a brilliant display that engulfed the entity of the creature and then some.

Not even a second later, as the smog from the explosion began to mesh with the carbon monoxide from the flames, the Captain burst through the thick, black, cloud like mass and scooped up both girls in his arms.

Immediately sling them over his shoulder he cried, "OY! ANYONE WITH A PENIS 'AD BETTER BE LISTENIN' UP! THERE BE A SEWER EXIT TOWARD THE BACK NEAR THE EMPLOYEE LOUNGE! HEAD THERE IMMEDIATELY, 'LESS YA' WANNA BE ROASTED ALIVE LIKE COD FISH ON PINEAPPLE SKINS!" Abraham did not stop to make sure the two men left in the building had heard him, he simply didn't have the time, as he ran down the hall, deftly leaping over some of his trap wires in the process, and blitzed toward the sewer exit as the flames and napalm began to rage out of control even more.

"Here's hopin' ya' heard me, mates," the Captain muttered to himself with a deep frown.

The young girl, though thankful to the pirate for saving her, turned her head to face the back of his, suppressed a yawn, and yelled at him as if he were insane (and completely unaware of the irony of that thought).

"The sewers!? Are you nuts? The sewers are filled with Feraligators and Pukes! We'll be killed for sure if we go down there!"

"Ay, lass, you be correct about that. However, less you have a better idea that doesn't involve burning alive, dying of asphyxiation, or being torn apart by Zubites, Pikachews, Charedmaneaters, and Gods know what else, I think my plan is the best one we have right now," the Captain retorted, sticking out his tongue at the girl, as he continued to run.

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater Lobby; Monday January 21st, 7:01 P.M.

Project Roy ran out into the lobby, after having heard some kind of commotion, in time to see Xero standing there, retrieving some kind of pike-lance thing amidst the flames of hell.

"What the hell's going on here?!" He demanded, looking at the other man.

Just then, the lobby's doors crashed open as a familiar yellow creature flew in before flipping and landing on its feet. It didn't even seem to notice the flames as it stood up and looked over at them, jawls dripping with saliva as it stared at them hungrily.

"Shit!" Project immediately opened fire on it with his machine gun and started stepping back, towards the hallway he'd been in. "Hurry up, man!" Just then, its leg exploded, and the creature with it, in a shower of gore. Project blinked, then remembered the latino had said something about traps, and stopped shooting. He ducked away from some of the gore, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a do-rag, ran his hand over his hair from the front and tied the do-rag over it it. "Fucking fire, what the hell started it?" He muttered angrily before looking at Xero again. "You ready to go? I somehow doubt we should be here what with this fire," He said.

The cries of beasts outside greeted them at that moment.

Shindig City Ruins - Sewers beneath the Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 7:07 P.M.

Though it took several minutes, Izumi finally recovered enough of her senses to stop panicking at the fact that she was unable to breath.  As soon as she was able to begin thinking again, he mind moved at a mile a minute as she determined her course of action.

First, she deliberately slowed her breathing and heart rate so that she could avoid suffocating as long as possible.  Once that was done, she realized that her windpipe was not completely constricted, it just wasn't responding yet . . . in fact, she could barely feel her throat at all, which was somewhat disturbing.  Still, now that she realized she wasn't going to die in a matter of minutes, she allowed herself to take in her surroundings.

It was about then that she noticed that she was currently being held tightly by the eye patch wearing man, his strong arms were crushing her to his chest as he ran and her arms were loosely draped around his neck.  The adorable flame thrower girl was also clinging to his back.

Izumi nearly felt her heart jump up into her troat (oh the irony).  She had never met such a primal example of manliness before in her life, risking life and limb to rescue her while she was helpless and carry her to safety . . .  And all despite the fact that her very presence reminded him of his dead lover . . .  Without even thinking, she tightened her hold around his neck and nuzzled her face into the crook of his shoulder, breathing in his manly scent -

A glint of light reflecting off of something just at the surface of the sewage caught her eye as her savior's rapid footsteps splashed down the length of the sewer.  Immediately instinct flared to life as a terrible sense of danger overcame her.  Her first action was to yell a warning - but no sound would come from her throat!

So, mere seconds before it happened, she forcefully broke free from the man's embrace and launched herself to the ceiling of the sewer in a flash of motion.  Just as she predicted, a massive fountain of water exploded upwards from the river of sewage which flowed down the center of the tunnel, and the massive Feraligator surged up and began to charge!

Twisting her body with gymnastic grace, Izumi bounced nimbly off of the ceiling and rebounded herself right at the head of the creature, just as it began to pass beneath her.  Moving swiftly, she dug a hand into her ninja toolkit which hung from the small of her back and pulled the first thing she could think of, just in time for her to land on the creature's leathery back.

Instantly, the monster stopped its bullish charge towards the pirate and flame thrower.  With a flick of her wrist, even as the Feraligator began to buck wildly beneath her, she jammed the sparking tazer right into one of the creature's glistening eyes.

With a massive crackling, and the smell of something horrible burning, the creature jerked wildly for a moment, before collapsing back to the ground, momentarily stunned.

Izumi quickly leapt off of the monster's back and began to run forward once more.  She tried to call out for them to follow again, but again her voice failed her, so instead she just gestured for them to follow her as she began to run aimlessly into the darkness.

Shindig City Ruins - Sewers beneath the Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 7:09 P.M.

"Ar, well I'll be damned, I guess you Japanese ninja types are good fer somethin' after all," the Captain said more to himself than anyone else as he looked down at the momentarily stunned Feraligator with a wide eye. However, he immediately snapped out of his stupor when he realized that the girl was motioning for him to follow her.

"Ar, I usually don't like taking orders from the lasses, but in this case I'll make an exception," the Captain muttered to himself as he set the flamethrower girl on her feet, since there was no immediate threat other than the stunned Feraligator, and followed the Japanese girl...but only after he shot a non-explosive knife from out of his mechanical wrist which embedded itself between the Feraligator's nostrils and clamped its mouth shut, at least for the moment...

"Ar! Where be the other two? Don't tell me those bloody fools got themselves killed!" the pirate exclaimed as he started down the sewer through the murky, foul smelling water that reached up slightly past his ankles. He didn't much care for the smell of the water, or the fact that it was lukewarm, but something told him that he had smelled worse long ago.

Shindig City Ruins - Sewers beneath the Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 7:09 P.M.

The flamethrower girl grimaced as the brave and heroic pirate unexpectedly set her down - straight into raw sewage that promptly rose up to her mid thighs.

"Uuuugh," she whined, moving to avoid a unidentifiable but unpleasant looking lump floating near her. Oh yeah, her savior had just lost quite a few badass points in her book. Though he was still well above Project at the moment.

A quick glance at their surroundings told her that they had little choice but to keep moving forward. Before them, a long arching tunnel stretched into the distance, flooded with rancid water, the only side passages either too small for anyone but her to navigate, or grated over. Every dozen feet or so, a dim, flickering light bulb cast a sickly illumination on their path. Behind them, a wide staircase leading back into the doomed theater, the gates that would normally bar it unlocked.

Wait, why the heck was there a staircase leading into the sewers in this theater? If you had to have a passageway into the sewers for some strange reason, most would install a ladder. And why were the gates already open, before they'd reached them? That was one heck of a security risk.

The girl narrowed her eyes as she watched the captain muzzle the Feraligator with another of his seemingly endless supply of blades. The stairwell, and the unbarred gate - a suspiciously convenient pair of circumstances that had allowed their sky pirate rescuer to carry them both to safety unimpeded.

But then, how could he have possibly known he'd find himself in this situation? If they were fictional characters in a story, she'd think it was a plothole. Of course, that obviously wasn't the case, so there had to be a reasonable explanation. She just couldn't imagine what it could possibly be.

"Nrrrrhhhh," she moaned, shaking her head in confusion. Perhaps she was over thinking this.

A wave of filthy water suddenly slammed into and over her body, causing her to gasp in twofold horror. Mostly at being soaked and covered in unmentionable substances, but the massive lizard struggling to rise very close behind them was also a bit unsettling.

Yeah, she was definitely over thinking things.

"RUN AWAY!" She shouted, splashing her way towards their ninja companion as fast as she could.

Shindig City Ruins - Sewers beneath the Harlequin Theater; Monday January 21st, 7:11 P.M.

Izumi continued to run ahead of her new companions, though the impenetrable maze that was this city's sewer system made it impossible to tell where they were in relation to the theater.  She did know that she wanted to get at least a mile away from the building before even daring to surface, but she wasn't certain that it was safe to stay down here so lon-

Suddenly, the ninja froze in mid run, her honed sense of hearing relaying her some very unfortunate news.  For a moment she hesitated, as a series of plans ran through her head, but the most obvious one was least preferable.  The splashing of her companions as the young girl and larger man began to caught up to her forced her to act, though.

Spinning rapidly, she moved in a blur, first picking up the young girl as she ran past her, the leaping forward, leading with her shoulder, and crashed heavily into the chest of the pirate.  This had the most unfortunate effect of instantly dunking them all completely in the sewage.  Even as her unfortunate victims began to cry in shock as they pulled themselves from the offal, she clapped sewage covered hands over their mouths and quickly pulled them into a darkened alcove, shadowed from even the meager moonlight pouring in through the manholes.

She did her best to hold them still, unable to explain herself . . . until mere moments later, five fullsized feralligators, each one even larger than the one she'd stunned, began to roam past them.  The creatures were moving slowly, sniffing carefully at the air and taking random pokes at the water around them . . . but hidden as they were, and their scents completely covered, it was only a matter of moments before they passed them by and began to move towards their confused and half blind brethren further down the sewer.

Once the herd of beasts was past them, Izumi lowered her sewage covered hands from her companions' sewage covered faces, offering them a sheepish smile as she indicated they should begin to move again, hopefully getting across the 'quietly' aspect with her hand signals.

Shindig City Ruins - Harlequin Theater Lobby; Monday January 21st, 7:01 P.M.

And then Project studied Xero's form and realized he was talking to an unconscious man. Seeing Xero's limp form hanging over his own weapon, the black man blinked in surprise and confusion at him, then tapped him. The man easily fell over, limp and unmoving.

"Shit," Roy knelt down and looked at the man, then opened his eyes. The man's eyes had gone completely white, with no sign of his irises, and an eerie blue glow was starting to enamate from them.

"YOUR END IS NEAR, VERMIN. THE CLEANSING OF THESE ISLANDS HAS BEGUN." Project took a step back in surprise at the sudden speech, but it continued on unperturbed. "THE END OF THE HUMAN RACE IS NIGH AT HAND. PRAY TO WHATEVER PATHETIC GOD YOU MAY, BUT THERE IS NOWHERE TO RUN, AND NOWHERE TO HIDE, FOR WE ARE ALL SEEING, ALL KNOWING, AND ALL POWERFUL."

Then the man's eyes faded back to normal and Project glared down at him.

"Well what the fuck was that?" He wondered, before shaking his head. Suddenly, he heard something heavy land behind him and turned around in time to see something he... did not really want to see, rising up off of the ground.

The... thing looked at him and opened its mouth, and started coughing. It was the most disgusting sound he'd ever heard in his entire life, and the thing wretched all over the place, spilling a disgusting looking mixture onto the ground that started eating through everything. Then, as it started coughing again, green and purple smoke began to emanated from every visible... orifice on its... body.

Project quickly bent over and grabbed Xero, then started looking around. All of the halls were blocked off now by the fire, so there was only one choice left to him.

He turned and started running towards the main entrance. When he got outside, he saw them all slowly marching towards the theater under the light of some strange blue glow that extended around each of them in a sphere. It was quickly becoming darker and darker, and the creatures had noticed him and were starting to advance on him.

'Well,' He sighed, resigned to the huge numbers of demonic and nightmarish looking beasts coming his way. 'It was fun... until now.'

And then he heard the voice of a young girl calling out to him.

"Quick, this way!"

He blinked and turned, looking towards an extremely pale skinned, small girl child who wore a white dress and had green hair in two pigtails standing to the side of the building at the entrance of an alley. Project quickly looked up at the dimming sky ring.

'Strange child appearing out of nowhere and calling me over?' He glanced back towards the fanged monsters as the loud coughing behind him became more audible. 'Ah, what the hell. Gotta try something.' With that he ran, quickly as he could with his passenger, towards the alleyway. When he reached her, she ran into the alley, then turned and looked up at him with shining red eyes and spoke.

"Come on, hurry!" Shrugging, he did just that, and she lead him over to a steel grating that covered a large square hole. The girl bent over and lifted it up easily, which surprised him, and hopped down into it, landing with a splash in some dim, greenish water.

And then he stopped moving completely - even his heart for a moment - as he could finally hear it. The sound of a million squeaks in the distance as the Zubites emerged from their daytime hiding places to begin the feeding frenzy.

"Hurry!" The girl called out with urgency, and he did just that, jumping down into the hole as she pulled the grating back over the hole,

He quickly jumped down into it and watched as she replayed the steel grating. Seconds later he could hear the cries of beasts that had not had the fortune to have light nearby them as the 'bites ripped into them above.

The little girl looked up at him with a frantic look.

"Give me your flashlight," She said. He blinked and then reached into a pocket before handing her a small flashlight, which she turned on. The light, though small, was bright enough to light up the entire tunnel they were in, and the sides had been chipped away so that the bulb's light reached all around them instead of forward in a beam. She looked up at him and spoke again. "Come on, we're still not safe yet!" She said before she started running down the hall with the flashlight.

Project blinked after hearing and seeing her speak. Her mouth hadn't moved?

Regardless, she was right, by proxy. They weren't safe now, and they probably wouldn't be safe ever again.

With that last thought, he started running after her into the darkness... only to trip and fall suddenly when an explosion rocked the tunnel.

"W, what the hell?" He stood up and looked down at Xero. "Damn it, why won't you wake up?"

Shindig City Ruins - Sewers; Monday January 21st, 7:22 P.M.

Project Roy trailed behind the short, green haired girl through the poorly lit, foul smelling waters, carrying the still unconscious Xero over his left shoulder and holding the flashlight in his right hand. He looked down at the girl with a frown as they kept walking.

"So..." He started. She didn't say anything, and he continued. "So, uh..." Not being very socially inclined, it was particularly hard for Project to come up with something to say to the girl. "Hmm..." He shook his head. 'At least I'm trying...' He growled and then looked up at her. "Look, what are we doing? Where are we going? Why am I following you? Who are you?" He suddenly demanded.

The girl turned to look at him with a solemn look.

"I'm... a friend. You wanted to find your own friends, though, right?" She said. "Once we find them down here, I can take you to a safe place. There's a boat with other humans leaving the island."

Project blinked as he processed what she'd said until he finally came up on the last part.

"Other humans?" He asked, looking at her. The girl looked surprised for a moment, and blushed, then looked away.

"Well yes, like us, of course, other humans like us, we wouldn't want any of those, er..." She looked over at him, and for a second, he could swear her eyes seemed to glow blue. "...Pokebeasts," She said with a nod before turning and walking again. Roy followed after her again with a sigh. Pokebeasts were what the world had decided to call them when they'd first appeared. Those powerful crimes against nature that had come from space, and their masters... the Pokemen...

Pokemen...

And then project remembered the first night of this nightmare. He had SEEN one of the pokemen himself, and seeing it in action, quickly escaped. Seeing the girl before him now...

'She's one of them!' He immediately stopped walking and haphazardly dropped Xero to the ground where he landed facedown in the sewerfilth, and grabbed the Chainsaw Machine Gun on his back and aimed it at her. She quickly turned around to see why he'd dropped Xero and saw the barrel of a rather dangerous gun between her eyes. She looked up to see Project glaring at her with more than a bit of fear in her eyes.

"W-w-w-"

"You're one of them. This is a trap, isn't it?" He demanded. "You didn't kill me, and didn't let the others kill me, because you have some sort of special use for me, right?"

"N-no! I, I, I just want to help! Please believe me!" The girl said, her eyes tearing up. She closed her eyes and her body started to shake, and Project blinked several times, slowly realizing that he'd really blundered.

"Oh... er... oh man." He let his gun down and looked around. "Um... look, I'm sorry. It's just, well, I uh..." The girl opened her eyes, and noticed the gun was gone. "Look, I'm really, really sorry. That was horrible of me, and..."

"I, it's okay," The girl said, lowering her head. "I... I understand. My people... they've done horrible things to you and yours."

He blinked as he looked up at her.

"I just... I can't stop them by myself, but I wanted to do what I could to defy them..."

It was then that they noticed a coughing, spurting sound on the ground below them, and they looked down at Xero, who was violently gagging in the muck.

"Oh shit! Fuck!" Project quickly reached down and grabbed Xero, pulling him up from the water. "Hey! Are you okay?"

Shindig City Ruins - Sewers; Monday January 21st, 7:25 P.M.

Project slammed his fist into Xero's back several times and the man coughed up some semi-solid muck. Roy winced; he just hoped the guy's sense of taste wouldn't be working when he woke up.

"We haven't much time, but we're almost there." The girl said, looking at him. "Your friends are waiting for us in..." Her eyes glowed blue for a moment. "A service tunnel that leads to the surface. You can stop there for the night, come on!" She said, turning and walking.

Project just nodded and slung the poor bastard named Xero over his shoulder before following after her.
